Donate a turkey to Second Harvest

Second Harvest is hoping donations will pick up for its annual turkey drive.

"This is the fifth year for the turkey drive and every year we get more requests from the agencies that need our food," said Zoe Cormack Jones, executive director of North York's Second Harvest. "We've got our fingers crossed that the public will come through generously on the second weekend."

The turkey drive, which kicked off this past Saturday at Loblaws stores throughout the city, including North York, only brought in 1,716 turkeys, well short of the 5,000 goal.

Another turkey collection will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Loblaws at Yonge Street and Yonge Boulevard in North York.

Second Harvest will then deliver the turkeys to hundreds of social service agencies around the Greater Toronto Area. Some agencies will provide communal Christmas dinners and others will give turkeys to needy families for holiday meals.

To make a donation or for more information regarding the turkey drive, call 416-408-2594 or visit www.secondharvest.ca.
