The Foursome tees off Thursday night

Penned by Scarborough-raised playwright Norm Foster

The Scarborough Players are set to tee off with their current production Thursday night at the Scarborough Village Theatre and they didn't have to stray too far from home for the play they chose.

The Foursome is written by Norm Foster, generally considered to be Canada's most produced dramatist, with nearly 40 plays now to his credit.

And sure enough, so far this year there are at least 98 productions in the works involving his plays.

And he's from Scarborough.

After graduating West Hill Collegiate Institute, he went on to study radio and television arts at Centennial College in Scarborough and then Confederation College in Thunder Bay.

The Foursome transcends its sports setting on the golf course as it looks at four old college buddies (played by Mike Arseneault, Greg Nowlan, Colin Murphy and Ben Trister) getting back together for a round of golf at a class reunion and sharing their successes and failures amidst hilarious one-upmanship, unexpected revelations and surprising role reversals.

Also featured in the production, which is produced by Ramona Abraham, are Christopher Boyd and Mike Petryshyn.

The Scarborough Players along with the Scarborough Music Theatre and the Scarborough Theatre Guild make up the three-member Theatre Scarborough, which has been presenting high-calibre community theatre for a combined total of 150 years.

Each season, the groups present 11 productions at Scarborough Village Theatre, a 248-seat thrust stage theatre located in the Scarborough Village Community Centre. The wheelchair-accessible complex has free parking on site.

Visit theatrescarborough.com for details.

The Foursome runs June 21 to 23 and 28 to 30 and July 5 to 7 at 8 p.m., except for the Sunday, June 24 matinee at 2 p.m.
