Marla Rosen is bringing her Emotions puppet show and concert Canadian tour to Fairview library Saturday.

The free interactive show, geared toward youngsters two to 10, aims to raise awareness about children's mention health and emotional intelligence, Rosen said.

"The show combines puppetry, live music, song, dance and theatre," said Rosen, who lives in Vancouver. "It's an educational way to teach children about emotional intelligence."

A female and male puppet, who narrate throughout the show, introduces key emotions: happy, sad, angry and excited, Rosen said, adding she then takes to the stage to sing a song or dance, encouraging her young audience to get up on stage with her or to participate from their seats if they are too shy to take to the spotlight.

Rosen, who has been performing the puppet show and concert for almost two years, took her show on the road in July, starting in Vancouver and making her way to Toronto, she said.

"The shows have been packed with 200 to 300 kids at each stop," said Rosen, a York University theatre graduate, performing arts educator and Montessori school teacher.

The tour has also served as the Emotions book and CD launch, which is made up of 10 different emotions kids can relate to, Rosen said. "It teaches self awareness and self management," she said.

After the tour ends, Rosen said she'll head back to the west coast to bring her show to more schools before tackling Canada's east coast and possibly the United States.

"It's important to teach kids about this type of thing," she said. "Mental health is an important topic to look at."

Emotions puppet show and concert will get underway at Fairview Public Library, 35 Fairview Mall Dr. in the Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue area, at 11 a.m.
