YORK: Three face charges after local robberies, break-ins

Victims in 11 Division urged to help identify seized items

Local victims of robberies and break-and-enters are being asked by police to come forward after $20,000 worth of stolen property was recently recovered.

Police from 11 Division's street crime and major crime units began an investigation in October following robberies on the TTC or near TTC property.

Police said young victims were threatened and/or intimidated into surrendering various items, including clothing, iPods, cellphones and cash. A large revolver-style handgun was displayed or indicated on several occasions.

"Digital surveillance videos assisted in identifying a number of suspects for these robberies," police said in a news release.

Officers from 11 Division, the emergency task force and police dog services executed Criminal Code search warrants in the Jane and Dundas streets area and the Keele and Dundas streets area March 13.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man were arrested, and items related to the robberies were seized.

Police also seized items stolen from a recent residential break-in as well as from vehicle break-ins in the High Park area.

The owners of a number of the recovered items haven't yet been identified, police said.

One teen has been charged with possessing property obtained by crime, theft, mischief, obstructing a peace officer and 10 counts of robbery. The other teen has been charged with mischief, possessing proceeds of crime, breach of recognizance, nine counts of robbery, five counts of theft and nine counts of possessing property obtained by crime.

The man has been charged with failing to comply with probation, possessing property obtained by crime and eight counts of robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1106 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
