Investors Group branch donates $15,000 to Flemington school
On March 20, Investors Group made the largest donation to date to the Lawrence Avenue and Allen Road area school with a $15,000 cheque.
The donation has allowed the school, which has an enrolment of 400 students from junior kindergarten to Grade 5, to purchase computers, televisions, DVDs, overhead projectors and library resources, said Principal Lyn Davy.
"We are very happy with the amount that was given to us," she said. "All I can say is it's made such a world of difference to be able to provide to the students. We don't ask parents for money because they don't have any to give. This gives our students opportunity and exposure to what other schools consider normal. We really appreciate it."
Investors Group has helped financially with Flemington's nutrition program, which provides breakfast, lunch and snacks to about half the students, but Davy asked if the latest round of funding could be for other needs.
Lorne Dubros, senior financial planner with the Toronto Fairview branch of Investors Group Financial Services, said the school is in dire need of funds.
Dubros approached Financial Group and Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto, which he is a member of, nine years ago to see if they could fundraise on behalf of the school.
"It's a great school, great kids," said Dubros, adding $5,000 was raised the first year and the number has grown since. "This year the money went to their wish list."
