Volunteer Rex Wong was honoured last night for his work at the sixth running of the Canon Mississauga Marathon.
Wong was presented with The Mississauga News Volunteer of the Year award at the marathon's volunteer appreciation celebration. He also received a Canon PowerShot digital camera.
Wong volunteered all three days of race weekend, which took place May 8-10, and provided valuable service at the Runners Expo and marathon finish area, organizers say.
“The support of our volunteers is crucial to the success of the Mississauga Marathon,” said Elliott Kerr, president of Landmark Sport Group, which organizes the marathon. “We need over 1,500 volunteers to ensure a safe, clean and enjoyable experience for the runners. Rex Wong helped us deliver a first-class running event.”
More than 11,000 runners and walkers participated in this year's event.
The 2010 Mississauga Marathon will take place next May 14-16.
