BEIJING - These Olympic Games provided a golden moment for Carline Muir, even if she isn't going to be competing for one.

Included on the Canadian track and field team as part of it's Rising Star program, the 20-year-old proved she is just that, advancing to the semifinals of the 400m before bowing out Sunday night.

She finished seventh in her heat in a time of 52.37, with just the top two from each of the three heats, plus the next two fastest times advancing to the final.

The prize for Muir was that she realized she belongs on this stage against the world's best.

"Being 20 and in your first Olympics, running against the fastest girls in the world; I'm just as good as any one of them out there, and I proved that," in running a personal best of 51.55 in the qualifier to reach the semis.

"I am very proud of what I came here to do and very happy with my result here," she said after the race.

Overall she was pleased with how things unfolded, although it bothered her a little that her time in the semifinal didn't meet her expectations.

"I thought this one would be a lot better, but you know what, I ran my best. I was focused on what I was supposed to do, it just didn't happen today."

There is a sense that there will be many more days to come, perhaps even a few more at the Summer Games.
