Today's edition of The Scarborough Mirror features a very special section called Faces Of The Future. The 24-page supplement pays tribute to 59 exceptional high school students from Scarborough.

They are being honoured in a variety of fields, from academics to athletics, dance, drama and music.

What each of them has in common is that they all present a face of Scarborough's future that is very bright indeed.

This is the second year The Mirror has presented Faces of the Future, and it provides further proof that the vast majority of Scarborough's kids are more than all right.

A total of 29 high schools gave us their nominees for Faces Of The Future. Last year, 26 high schools took part so we're glad to see the increase.

The supplement is a great opportunity to highlight what's good about Scarborough, and that's a responsibility The Mirror has always taken seriously. Along with Faces Of The Future in today's edition, The Mirror is also helping to present the Scarborough Walk of Fame induction ceremonies and gala celebration on Thursday, Oct. 23.

We know that our community is a great place to live, work and grow.

Don't be surprised that with the passage of time we may well see some of the students profiled in this edition of Faces Of The Future being welcomed into the Scarborough Walk of Fame.

We at The Mirror could not have put Faces Of The Future together without the co-operation of our local high schools. The teachers and school administrators are at the front lines of our future and they were enthusiastic to have credit given to their exceptional students.

Also critical to the success of this special supplement was the support of the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus and Centennial College. They are both long-established Scarborough institutions which have played a role in developing and inspiring our local young people for more than four decades.

Putting together a supplement such as Faces Of The Future also required a supreme effort from The Mirror's editorial and advertising teams.

But the real stars, of course, are the young people whose photos and biographies you will be reading.

They are youth leaders such as Rashel Wani and Trevor Sherk of Bendale Business and Technical Institute, who have made remarkable achievements in fashion design and metal work respectively; Tharsika Thangavelauthapillai from Mother Teresa Catholic High School; Adam Loo from Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate; and Dushane Farrier from Neil McNeil Catholic High School. All of Scarborough should be proud of them and the many others being recognized in the special section.

We invite Scarborough readers to enjoy Faces Of The Future, and our community's bright future.
