A man faces charges in connection with a June 26 hit-and-run collision that injured two pedestrians as they waited for a bus.The accident occurred at 8:20 a.m. on Victoria Park Avenue at Peard Road, north of St. Clair Avenue.
Police said an 85-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were standing at a bus stop when a car heading north crossed the southbound lanes, mounted the curb and struck them. The car then travelled across three front lawns before it returned to the roadway and fled.
The victims were taken to hospital suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers from 41 Division located the suspect vehicle, a Pontiac Sunfire, in the back parking lot of an apartment building on Glamorgan Avenue near Kennedy and Ellesmere roads about an hour after the collision.
"It was recovered with significant damage that does actually match up to what was at the scene," Sgt. Tim Burrows alleged at the time. "Witnesses were key to being able to locate this vehicle. We got excellent descriptions of the damage. We got excellent descriptions of the licence plate."
A man turned himself in to police at 11:36 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2.
Matthew Modeste, 19, has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm and drive disqualified.
