Re: 'Gun plan laudable, but more pressing issues face Miller,' Editorial, May 30While a newspaper may be expected to display a bias on certain issues, your 30 May edition of the Mirror goes to extremes on the issue of Mayor Miller's gun plan. The editorial and City Views, both by David Nickle as well as David Soknacki's column all contain negative views of this one aspect of the mayor's overarching plan to eliminate gun violence in our city, despite the lack of real support from the provincial and federal governments.
Other elements of this plan address the underlying issues which create the gun mentality in our youth and appear to be having a positive effect. If all guns are removed from the city and cannot end up in the hands of criminals, then we should consider this much more important than the needs of a few individuals to practise their sport in an urban area. Just one death caused by a stolen gun is justification for this move.
