Triple gold medallists lead North York contingent
Metro regional track and field summary
A trio of multi-gold medal winners led North York athletes at the Metro regional track and field meet that wrapped up Thursday, May 22 at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.Top finishers from this meet advance to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) provincial championships that are being held in Hamilton June 5 to 7.
In track and field, the 100m event is generally considered to be the event that carries the tag as the "fastest".
Westview Centennial's Janelle Redhead left no doubt as she achieved an almost unprecedented sweep of all three senior women's sprints: the 100m, 200m and 400m.
North York also boasted another triple gold medalist in the midget boys division. Mikhel Poldma of Windfields Junior High accomplished a sweep of the throwing events with gold in shot put, discus and javelin.
A double gold medal performance was turned in by Jennifer Adada, of Madonna Catholic Secondary School, who won both the high jump and the long jump.
Also of note:
- A gold-silver combo was served up in midget boys by Anthony Leone of Dante Alighieri in the 100m (gold) and 200m (silver).
- A silver-bronze combo was served up in junior boys by Bismark Boateng of Monsignor Percy Johnson in 100m (silver) and 200m (bronze).
North York's other gold medals were won by:
- Sean Sweeney of Senator O'Connor in senior men's 1,500m;
- Tiffany Christie of Emery C.I. in senior women's high jump;
- Sam Lane of Crestwood Prep in senior women's pole vault;
- and Joycelyn Nortei of Windfields Junior High in midget girls discus.
Other silver medals were earned by: Bianca Forbes of C.W. Jeffries in senior women's 400m; Tory Grummet of Lawrence Park in senior women's 100m; Julie Duchoslov of York Mills Collegiate in senior women's high jump; and by the Madonna C.S.S. 4x100m junior women's relay team.
North York's other bronze medals were earned by: Michael Doyle of Westview in senior men's 400m; Jake Graham of Crescent School in senior men's 3,000m; Ehis Adada of Chaminade in senior men's long jump; Sitan Zhang of Earl Haig S.S. in junior women's 3,000m; Taylor MacPhail of Crescent School in junior men's 3,000m; Michael McIntosh of George S. Henry in junior men's long jump; O'Shea Tayler of York Mills in junior men's triple jump; Leroy Ackman of Chaminade in junior men's shot put; Chante Clarke of Downsview S.S. in midget girls high jump; Ashley Devlin of Loretto Abbey in midget girls shot put; and Bita Sheikholeslami of Zion Heights in midget girls javelin.
