Picket lines have come down and Canadian Auto Workers' Union (CAW) employees of Woodbine Entertainment are back at work today, following a 17-day strike.
A tentative settlement was reached on Friday, and picketers who were slowing traffic entering and exiting the slots at Woodbine Racetrack and Slots, stood down waiting for the vote.
The new three-year deal was ratified on Dec. 23, with a 90 per cent vote in favour of the new contract.
This is the first contract negotiated since the workers joined the CAW in August.
"Our members showed tremendous courage and willingness to fight this issue as a matter of principle, and we won," said Hemi Mitic, CAW representative, in a press release.
The workers involved in the strike included 185 bartenders and servers at Greenwood Teletheatre, as well as Woodbine and Mohawk slots.
Talks broke down between two parties in early December.
The new contract includes wage and benefit improvements for both full and part-time workers as well as job protection and new workplace safety language.
