A BIG celebration of community spirit is set to take place Saturday, June 21 from 1 to 9 p.m. along Bloor Street West from Christie Street to Lansdowne Avenue.

The BIG festival is a grassroots event created by the Bloor Improvement Group (BIG), a volunteer-led community-based coalition that has the common goal of bettering Bloor Street West from Spadina Avenue to Dundas Street West.

"We're very excited. (This festival) really comes down to the collaborative effort that is the purpose of BIG," said its chair Jason Laszlo.

"The neighbourhood was just dripping with goodwill and talent and it was just a matter of harnessing that."

This year's inaugural festival will feature 2.5-kilometres of car-free access along Bloor Street West, live music on two stages, scores of buskers, special event hubs featuring local cultural acts, and over 300 vendors and performers as well as a wide range of food and drink for all to enjoy.

The BIG Festival will also feature Culture Works, a street fair for Toronto's cultural institutions and organizations like the ROM, the AGO, the National Film Board, the Toronto School of Art and many more.

Festival goers are also invited to attend the BIG dinner party June 21 at 6 p.m. by bringing their own dinner to the festival or by trying out one of the many local restaurants in the area.

"We really want to let the city know how much amazing stuff happens along this stretch of Bloor Street," Laszlo said.
