A young man found dead outside a home Tuesday, Aug. 26, may have been shot hours earlier behind a shopping mall a few blocks away.

The victim's body was discovered at about 7 a.m. on Bon Echo Court near Tapscott Road and McLevin Avenue.

"A lady called in and said she found a man on her property," Toronto police Const. Tony Vella said.

The unidentified man, who police said had no connection to the woman's home, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police discovered a trail of blood from the back of the Malvern Town Centre to where the victim was found.

Local resident Rajul Patel said she didn't hear any gunshots and only learned that something serious had happened when her husband took out the garbage and saw lots of police cars and an ambulance.

"This is a very nice area. Kids play outside all the time. I've never had trouble," the mother of two said. "I'm very surprised and shocked. Now I feel scared and won't let my kids out at night."

Police closed a section of McLevin, Bon Echo and Pinery Trail as they investigated the murder, the city's 43rd of the year.

"We always felt safe here," said Patel, noting she'd now like to see more police patrols and surveillance cameras to "deter crime" in the neighbourhood.

Police didn't release a description of the suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information should call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
