More than 50 singers will combine to stage a concert in celebration of the 160th anniversary of Knox United Church in Agincourt later this month.

The concert will be held at the church at 7:30 pm on Sunday, May 25. The singers will be drawn from two church communities - The Knox United Church Choir and Mountainview United Church from St. Catharines.

The concert will be of varied music, including a sing-a-long of well-known church hymns, choral and choral anthems. Covers of Billy Joel and fiddle tunes from Don Messer, a 1960's defining icon of folk music will also be played.

Tickets to the concert are being sold at $20.

According to Rev. Jean Day, the acting minister of the church, proceeds from ticket sales will go to the church's mission and services fund.

"The church is involved in social work, both in Canada and abroad. The fund helps churches to sustain new churches until they can run on their own and we shall be contributing to the Burma crisis." Rev, Day said.

"Since the early years, Knox has been in place for members of the community to worship and share in many joys and sorrows," the church said in a release.

Knox was first formed as a Free Presbyterian church in June of 1848.

According to Gloria Marshall, a member of the church, Knox's steeple has been a landmark in the Agincourt community since 1872 when the current sanctuary was built near Midland and Sheppard avenues.
