Residents are invited to learn, from a master, about an ancient Chinese practice that can improve one's fortune.
Joey Yap will speak on March 22 at Hotel Novotel, in the City Centre, site of the Thriving in Challenging Times Feng Shui and Astrology Seminar. Yap is an international speaker, best-selling author, television personality and founder of Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics.
Feng shui ("wind water") is an art and science developed in China 3,000 years ago. It's a knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of a location, such as a home or its interior, to ensure the health and good fortune of those living there.
According to those who practice the art, bad feng shui can lead to hardship and misfortune, while good feng shui can lead to fortune.
Lydia Loo, Canadian representative of the Mastery Academy, said she expects about 400 people to attend. Feng shui consultants, hobbyists, interior designers and other professionals will be on hand.
"It's for the curious, too," said Loo. "Those who wish to learn about feng shui are always welcome to come."
The seminar runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are $58 to $68, and $2 from each ticket sold will go to Hazel's Hope, Mayor Hazel McCallion's charity that raises funds for World Vision HIV/AIDS relief in Tanzania.
