Two Mississaugans — a rookie and a veteran — are filling the basket for York Lions.
David Tyndale was today named the Ontario University Athletics East basketball rookie of the year, while teammate Tut Ruach was named an OUA East second-team all-star, as the OUA announced its major award winners and all-stars for the division.
Tyndale, a former Father Goetz Gator, was also selected to the OUA East all-rookie team.
The five-foot-11 guard finished 15th in OUA scoring and second on the team in assists, with 2.5 per game.
He also emerged as York’s most efficient shooter as he finished first on the team in field goal percentage (48.9) and three-point field goal percentage (39.2).
“David has led our young team from day one,” said head coach Bob Bain. “He has scored on a consistent basis with an exceptional shooting percentage all year. He has defended well and has led our team in average minutes played per game. He is a joy to coach and wants to get better each game.”
Ruach, also a guard and an ex-Gator, received the third all-star award of his five-year career at York. He led the Lions in scoring, with 18.5 points per game, good for fourth in the OUA, and was also first on the team in free throw percentage (83.8), assists (89) and steals (46).
