The Toronto Indy is coming back to the city but not until next summer.
Racing legend Michael Andretti and his partner Kim Green, who run Andretti Green Promotions, have purchased the assets of the Grand Prix Association of Toronto, the organization that operated the Toronto event.
The Toronto Indy was cancelled this year when Champ Car was folded into the Indy Racing League and could not accommodate the event in its schedule.
Seven-time Toronto Indy winner Andretti and Green have created a wholly owned Canadian company called Andretti Green Toronto to operate the event. An IndyCar Toronto series is already in the works for summer 2009.
The official announcement was made Thursday in Indianapolis.
The 51-year-old driver, known only as Mr. Kean, was driving eastbound along Unwin Avenue at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13 when he noticed an oncoming truck slowly swerving.
Kean quickly saw that the truck's driver was slumped over the wheel and in distress. He reversed his dump truck to avoid a collision and ran over to help.
With the assistance on an unknown man, Kean managed to open the truck's door, reaching in and forcing it into park.
The two men administered first aid and called 911.
Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident near 220 Unwin Ave. at Regatta Road.
"The driver of the dump truck should be commended for his efforts in ensuring that no one else was put in harm's way," said 51 Division's Sgt. Debbie Harris in a release.
