The Singing Revolution winners

Tracey Matsugu and Kitty Liu from North York; Aleks Kivi from East York; Linda Hartley from Scarborough; Margaret Imecs from Etobicoke; and Trudie Davies from the Beach are off to see The Singing Revolution.

The Singing Revolution looks at the story of Estonia's fight for freedom from the Soviet Union.

The year was 1969 and it was at the century anniversary of the national song festival, Laulupidu, that the people started singing the unofficial national anthem of Estonia, translated to Lands of My Fathers, Land That I Love, a song that had slipped by the Russian censors for more than 20 years.

And that act of resistance is part of the movie The Singing Revolution, which combines interviews of movement leaders and Estonian citizens with archival footage from the period of Soviet occupation ( www.singingreveolution.com ).

Congratulations to each of our winners. Keep visiting us at insidetoronto.com for more contests!
